Just a quick update as it’s all very busy here with preparations for the Edinburgh Fringe festival!  (You can find us on the High St 13th-19th August, will update before then with more details.)

Last night was the final part of the latest Glasgow Resin Workshop which went fantastically well. In between the wine and fine cake, we found time to make some really rockin’ jewels…

Next weekend (Sat 6th of August) will see Spoiltpig Jewellery and I Love Lexy return to the local craft market scene after a very long stint at manic, city-centre markets.. and this time we’ll be trading together as Freak Carousel!  It’s been a while since either of us attended the Aberdeen craft bazaar and we’ve really missed the great handicrafts, friendly chatter and home-baking that you find at these out-of-town events.  Luckily we’ve found a great new market down here in Glasgow of the same kind and they’ve accepted us as stall holders next month…

I’d also like to take the time to mention our good friends at The Life Craft.

I’ve had many good coffees, cakes, chat and crafty advice from this creative hub in Glasgow’s West end and am sad to hear that they will be closing doors on the 20th of August 2011.
I’ve been promised that they’ll be back in new premises in the near future but if you’re in the area, I strongly recommend popping in for the crafting cafe experience (and to take advantage of the 30% off sale!) before they close(or sell out of all the great wool!).

I think that’s about all I can fit in for this evening..there are a million new things happening with Freak Carousel and hopefully I’ll get a chance to blog about them soon.  In the meantime, keep an eye on the facebook page for new updates.

I should have blogged about this a long time ago (I can’t believe I’ve been back almost a month!) but I got a little caught up in all the ideas and making things.

SpoiltPig Jewellery is slowly, slowly coming to an end.  I’m not done yet but the name is.  I’ll be rebranding to ‘Freak Carousel‘ which is going to be a mishmash of Spoiltpig and I Love Lexy creations.  We attend so many craft fairs together, it seemed to make sense to have a single trading name for the purpose.

And then I fell in love with our new name and logo:

..so have decided to just focus on this new venture.

I’ve already had the flyers made :)

New Folksy Shop
New Facebook Page
New Twitter
(my new tumblr – sick sense of humour sometimes required)

As excited as I am about all the new Freak Carousel things (I’m building a website at the moment), I’m also REALLY scared I’ll mess up the transition.  SpoiltPig does pretty well and amassed a fair few fans and repeat customers..what if they all get lost in the confusion?  If anyone of you crafty readers have experience of this, I’d love to hear from you!

Now that I’ve been, and done, and gotten myself home without too much hassle – I can now share that my indulgent travelling holiday was actually a volunteer placement at an organisation in a Palestinian refugee camp.

I’ve just spent three months working in the West Bank at an organisation for women and children.  I taught jewellery making skills, children’s arts & crafts, sewing and attempted to teach English.  I managed to get enough time off to travel around a little bit and was living with a family in the camp for most of my time there.  It was …educational? Certainly an experience.  And I made a lot of very wonderful new friends.

I also crossed the border and took a few days break in Jordan, I couldn’t go all that way and NOT see Petra and Wadi Rum Desert!

ANYWAY – I know none of that is very SpoiltPig related so I’ll just leave it at photo-sharing unless someone expresses an interest in hearing stories or finding out more about volunteering in the West Bank.

I got back just a couple of weeks ago and am still sort of re-adjusting, but it’s been fun so far!  Lots of alcohol. Lots of music.  And I am ‘back to work’ now with exciting plans!
