Term is well and truly over! HELLO SUMMER HOLIDAYS!~

Did I ever share my final college exhibition piece?  I think not so here it is!

I’m not quite sure what it is…a painting? mixed media collage?  I couldn’t stop adding things to it…embroidery, bows, applique and experimented with a million different pens, pencils, oils and acrylics. And then if that wasn’t enough, I snipped little hearts out from the original canvas and transformed them into little wearable pieces of art, six necklaces in total.
For those new to the blog, I’ve just completed an Art & Design portfolio course at Aberdeen College, having only discovered my interest in the subject in the last year or so and this is my first finished piece!
My talents definitely lean more towards 3-D and practical, making skills but I’m still pleased with it :) and after seeing the Dundee College exhibition, I’m pretty confident I’ve picked the best place for developing my drawing and painting skills after summer (and thankfully they let me in!).

It’s been a busy month and the next fortnight is looking to be just as hectic :)

In the coming weeks I shall be finishing work and then assisting with the hanging  for the college exhibition, attending the opening and schmoozing people into large purchases(hopefully), attending final fittings for the HND Fashion Show and then erm, strutting my stuff on the catwalk!

On top of this, SpoiltPig is also providing the jewellery for the HND Fashion Show, yaay!  It’s going to be a fantastic night and I’ve decided it’s the right time to properly launch “SpoiltPig Couture” collection too.
Sooooo to keep SpoiltPig fans included and involved in the new happenings, I’m hosting ANOTHER giveaway!

.        .        .        .        .        .        .        .

The Couture Collection will be launched and online on the 7th June 2010  so I’ll be drawing ONE lucky winner at random on the 1st June, to make sure they get their surprise Couture Heart necklace before anyone else!

I’m not unveiling anything until the very last minute, a little because it’s a huge secret and a little because I haven’t put the finishing touches to anything yet!  But be assured that you’ll be receiving a completely unique, One Of A Kind, designer Heart shaped necklace from the new range of SpoiltPig jewellery (which will retail between £20-£25!)….and all you have to do is leave a comment here to let me know you want to be entered!

Please also share this giveaway with your friends.  Link to the post from twitter, post it on your facebook/bebo/myspace or blog about it if you can!
SpoiltPig Jewellery is also now on Facebook.  Pretty please, take the time to look around the page and suggest us to all of your friends x x x

College so far…

I had a few naughty days off College last week.  Stress + housing issues + head cold = self pitying, stay at home loser.  I was back in schule today though and remembered how much I like it and how much I want to be there so I thought I’d share a peek of what we’re working on.
Above is from the dreaded ‘Coast’ project, the only sketch I actually like from the lot although it’s technically not the best.

Below is a progression from my favourite class :)
The project’s called ‘My Space’ and is pretty open to interpretation, choosing an initial object and working out from it.  I pulled a goldfish bowl out of the air – feel like I cheated the sketchbook a little bit because I went down the route of the first, immediate idea I had, which I’m sure I was supposed to avoid.

Anyway – here’re some random pages from the book:

This is the first thing I did with the object that I liked - bowl head!

1. This is the first thing I did with the object that I liked - bowl head!

Tried something a little different, still with words and colour.

2. Tried something a little different, still with words and colour.

3. Finally settled on the idea of using goldfish bowl peoples

3. Decided that bowl head peoples were the way to go

4. At this stage I realised how much I blatantly nicked the idea from Dave McKeans the day I swapped my dad for two goldfish illustration...woops?

4. At this stage I realised how much I blatantly nicked the idea from Dave McKeans "the day I swapped my dad for two goldfish" illustration - I DIDN'T MEAN TO :(

5. Scene - nearly ready for adding newspaper/magazine goldfish bowl peoples.

6. Another scene idea for goldfish bowl peoples, not really sure how to finish it - scenery/media etc.

6. Another scene idea for goldfish bowl peoples, not really sure how to finish it - scenery/media etc and if I take this scene on to develop, I have to remember that the trees are supposed to make a bowl shape and not a squidged pumpkin shape.

I’m doing a gazillion other things at college too but don’t have any of the other sketchbooks handy to photograph – Scultpure is fun, my analytical drawing sucks but my life drawing isn’t ‘too’ bad, it just takes me a really really long time.  My drawing and painting skills are pretty poor all round to be honest but getting noticeably better.

Graffiti Fly

College is excellent! Spent the first two weeks in the introductory course and then moved up to the Portfolio at the end of last week :) People are ace, tutors are ace, the projects are ace….challenging but still amazing.
We went out on location today and I took a sneaky five minute break to chase after a butterfly – most productive break in my history.

(Click the image to see the larger version on Flickr)
I got a lot of really good shots(very still and patient butterfly) but only have time to upload this one tonight. Not really a lot of messing around in photoshop. I knew instantly that I really liked the rough, dirty texture of the wall with the spray paint so just sharpened everything up to exaggerate it…now the butterfly almost looks like graffiti. Very pleased with it :)
